Horses as “Leadership Simulators”

Did you know when a group of humans joins with a group of horses, the horses consider the humans members of the herd? When this happens, the horses quickly and proficiently assess which humans are natural leaders and which humans prefer to follow others. As prey animals, horses need this high level of discernment for their survival.

The ability of the horse to innately assess leadership qualities helps the herd form a hierarchy in which each herd member has a specific, defined role to play to help ensure the safety and survival of the entire herd. All horse behavior revolves around this dynamic.

This “hard-wired” nature-provided herd assessment dynamic provides a useful “simulator” for humans to explore their leadership strengths, talents and capabilities.

Where will the members of your team fit in the herd dynamic?
